Volunteering for an SSP committee is a great way to network with colleagues and make new connections. Volunteers are essential to SSP's work. To get started, fill out our Volunteer Form To see the list of members in a particular committee, click on the name below.
The Annual Meeting Program Committee selects the theme for the Annual Meeting and determines topics for keynote, plenary, and concurrent sessions. Members recruit speakers, provide guidance on expectations, and work with staff and other SSP groups to plan the schedule and promote the meetings.
The Communications Committee is responsible for helping guide SSP’s internal and external communications, including the Web site, and social networking sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter). Members generate content and messages, suggest policies and practices, and assist in keeping the organization current by recommending traditional and alternative communication strategies.
The Development Committee is responsible for promoting organizational membership, for sponsorship, and for exhibits development. The committee seeks new exhibitors and encourages current exhibitors (including sponsors of the Travel Grant program) to return for future conferences.
The Education Committee plans and conducts fall and spring educational seminars (including Annual Meeting sessions), Webinars, and the Librarian Focus Group. Members work with staff and other committees to promote the sessions.
The Executive Committee is made up of the executive members from the Board of Directors.
The Finance Committee oversees the budget and financial operations of SSP.
The scope of the IN Conference Planning Committee is to develop program content for the conference, recruit speakers, and provide guidance on expectations. Members work with staff and other SSP groups to plan the schedule and promote the conference.
The Marketing Committee coordinates and conducts marketing outreach for SSP activities, including the Annual Meeting and educational seminars. Members prepare copy and work with designers on event logos, Web banners, postcards, and ads for Learned Publishing, brochures, flyers, list server announcements, e-mail blasts, and so on.
The responsibilities of the Membership Committee are to monitor SSP’s membership health, promote and develop new individual memberships in SSP, and advise the Board of Directors on matters concerning benefits for all classes of membership.
The Nominating and Awards Committee’s central responsibility is to identify the candidates for each open officer and Board position for election in the coming year.
In accordance with Board policy, the Organizational Collaboration Committee responds to new requests for organizational collaboration and steers specific requests to the appropriate committee. Members proactively identify new collaborative opportunities, monitor the activities calendars of other organizations for the industry calendar, and provide information about planned SSP activities to other organizations.
The Professional Development Committee plans and manages professional development activities, including mentorship, professional profiles, new member welcome, and the student and early career Travel Grant program.
