Cristina Mittermeier and the ILCP RAVE Team
ILCP's Rapid Assessment, Visual Expedition Program
Cristina Mittermeier is a photographer, a NANPA member and the driving force behind the formation of the International League of Conservation Photographers (ILCP). She presently serves as its executive director. Cristina and other ILCP RAVE (Rapid Assessment, Visual Expedition) team members will present the results of one of the first RAVEs completed by ILCP. The RAVE project aims to achieve a full visual assessment of an important area of the world in a short period of time by a team of specialized photographers (landscape, wildlife, macro, camera trapping, portraiture), writers and videographers or filmmakers. For further information on the RAVE project, see www.ilcp.com/projects/RAVE.htm.
Brian Skerry
Fade to Blue: Marine Conservation Photography in the 21st Century
As a contributing photographer to National Geographic, Brian Skerry has spent the last ten years photographing stories about the sea. Recently he has turned his attention to some of the most serious problems facing our world's oceans. The result of this work was featured in three National Geographic stories in 2007, including the April cover story on global fisheries. In this exclusive NANPA presentation, Brian will show the devastation of overfishing, the hope for wildlife that remains, and solutions for the future. His images will "put a face on seafood," showing us the magnificent animals we are losing, and take us to remaining Edens where marine life continues to thrive. Brian will also provide insight and behind-the-scenes details from his ongoing fieldwork. Brian is a NANPA member and an ILCP Fellow. See his website at www.brianskerry.com.
