Come join your friends and other nature enthusiasts for our first annual NANPA Fun Shoot! Instead of conducting specific field trips, this year NANPA is inviting everyone to go out and photograph. Two state parks close to the Summit site, and a third on the Sandestin property itself, will host this event. Grayton Beach State Park and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park have beautiful white sand beaches as well as unique dune ecosystems and hiking paths. Transportation is on your own, but a sign-up board for those needing rides and those who can provide rides will be posted at the Registration desk. A third location on the Sandestin Resort will be posted at the Registration desk for those without transportation.
There is no fee; the Fun Shoot costs nothing more than admission to the park you choose to visit. However you must register for this special event. NANPA will have designated pros at all locations who, while shooting themselves, will guide participants and discuss photography.
Who Should Attend

(This is one workshop in three sessions; sessions not available separately.)
Looking to start off right in digital photography? But does the digital process sometimes confuse you? Join award winning nature photographers Bill Campbell and Cheryl Opperman as they guide you through the new and exciting realm of digital photography. Starting with a two-hour session on the digital camera, participants will learn about color spaces, white balance, image noise, appropriate file formats, camera setup and optimal exposure techniques. Bill and Cheryl will end this part of the workshop with hands-on controlled situations for learning proper exposure. Be sure to bring your camera and manual.
The second two-hour session will be held the following morning in the field on the Sandestin Resort grounds to practice appropriate exposure techniques. Bill and Cheryl will explain differences between built-in and on-camera flash and demonstrate the use of macro flashes. They will emphasize exposure, with proven field techniques and composition explored as the opportunity arises.
The final two-hour session will continue the digital process from camera to computer. Consistent color management of the monitor will be discussed at length. Bill and Cheryl will use Adobe Lightroom to explore both management and simple processing of your digital negative. RAW conversion will be demonstrated as well as procedures to speed up the conversion process. Lightroom's library tools for image management will also be explained. Archival processes will be discussed to help participants develop their own procedures at home. This workshop should prepare a digital novice to leave the Summit with the knowledge to make properly exposed digital images and then manage and process them with speed and consistency in Adobe Lightroom.

From Your Camera to a Paycheck
Mar 2, 2008
9:00 AM
to
12:00 PM
Instructor: Ric Kasnoff
Photographers who market their images know the only way to make a sale is to get their images in front of clients. What is the most effective and efficient way to make this happen? Whether you are marketing your images through your own website, a stock agency or other distribution channels, a key to your photographs being found is proper keywording and metadata. Editors and researchers depend on this information to help them find and select the images they need.
This special workshop presented by Ric Kasnoff will help you develop an efficient, automated workflow to add this crucial information to your image files. Ric will show you how to build and use templates that will help you quickly attach metadata and keywords to your images to ensure they are ready for distribution. Proper metadata practices can also protect you from unauthorized usage and can help establish ownership in case of disputes.
The discussion will move beyond the how-tos of entering the data and discuss other important subjects including:
Controlled vocabulary versus random, reactionary keywording
Copyrighting your images and what protection it gives you
Orphan works-legal image theft is on the horizon
Stock sales options-it's not just the Big 3 agencies anymore
Image tracking service options
Image licensing models and options
Who Should Attend
Photographers looking to protect their images, increase their visibility, marketability and sales. This will be a hands-on workshop. For a better understanding, Ric recommends that you bring a laptop and a digital asset management program such as Lightroom, IView, Aperture or Photoshop's Bridge. Ric will be using Lightroom during this workshop, though the principles are the same for all programs. A 30-day free trial is available for Lightroom if you wish to follow Rick's on-screen demonstrations more closely.
Fee
$105 for NANPA members; $155 for non-members.
