    Course Description:
    This online webinar series provides an introduction to the practical application and use of popular peripheral biofeedback modalities. The biosignals that will be discussed in the series are Respiration, Heart Rate (from blood volume pulse and electrocardiogram), Heart Rate Variability, Skin Conductance (also called Galvanic Skin Response), Skin Temperature, Surface Electromyography (SEMG), and Passive Hemoencephalography (pIR HEG). A general overview of the physiological basis for each peripheral measurement will be provided using the BioGraph Infiniti software and Thought Technology hardware. Participants will directly see how the sensors are applied to the subject, what typical signals and false values (also called artifacts) look like, and how the different modalities work in conjunction with audio and visual multimedia biofeedback displays.

    Part 1 focuses on Respiration, Heart Rate and Heart Rate Variability;
    Part 2 continues with Heart Rate Variability, and introduces Skin Conductance and Temperature;
    Part 3 examines Surface Electromyography and Passive Hemoencephalography (pIR HEG).

    Learning Objectives:
    Professionals who complete this webinar will:

    • Describe the clinical utility of Respiration, Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability.
    • Demonstrate the proper sensor and electrode application for each modality, in order to collect representative data.
    • Recognize the waveform of each peripheral biofeedback modality.
    • Recognize and minimize generating fake signals.
    • Use of different multimedia biofeedback that maximizes the success for each type of peripheral biofeedback.

    Level: Introductory
    Prerequisites: None. Advance preparation is not required.
    Who Should Attend:Any researcher or health practitioner interested in getting their first introduction to the different modalities.

    CE Credits: 1 credit

    Psychologists: The Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. AAPB maintains responsibility for the program and its content. This webinar offers a MAXIMUM of 1 CE hours.
    BCIA Recertification: Hour-for-hour attendance in breakout sessions/workshops may be used to fulfill the continuing education requirements for recertification with certificate of attendance.





    Presenter Bio:
    Jon Bale, Application Specialist, Thought Technology
    For nearly nine years Jon Bale was the Research Manager for the Biofeedback Federation of Europe (BFE), before joining the Thought Technology family as an Application Specialist. His experiences include instructing and working with various clinical leaders in the field of biofeedback and neurofeedback, such as Dr. Paul G. Swingle, Dr. Inna Khazan, Dr. Vietta Sue Wilson, and Dr. Barry Sterman. Jon's extensive knowledge of applications in biofeedback and neurofeedback, along with his work adapting clinical methods into easy-to-use techniques, makes him an ideal individual to demonstrate and discuss the correct and effective use of different biofeedback modalities.
