Purpose:
The AHIA Regional Seminars provide a forum for healthcare internal auditors to network and interact with their peers, to share internal audit best practices, and to strengthen the profession of healthcare internal auditing.

These sessions are designed to be highly interactive to promote attendee participation and sharing of internal audit best practices. Attendees will learn about current healthcare internal audit topics, audit approaches and techniques, and best practices.

Enterprise Risk Management is a business concept that has been in the public domain for many years. But do you still wonder what ERM looks like in operation? During this session, we will simulate what Enterprise Risk Management looks like in action. Included in the dynamic simulation you can watch first hand: the Board of Directors executing its oversight responsibilities; business units and functions identifying, assessing and managing risks; internal audit monitoring key risks and the overall program, and more.

Top of mind for healthcare providers today is the ability to keep from running afoul of mounting security and privacy regulations without impacting the delivery of patient care. This session will cover hot topics which healthcare internal auditors should strongly consider when preparing their internal audit plans for this year. Topics will include: EHR security and privacy, HIPAA security/privacy and "meaningful use," automated patient record "surveillance," encryption vs. alternative methods of protecting PHI/PII, data loss prevention in the real world, and compliance vs. security.

This session provides an opportunity for internal auditors to learn about functions and processes that comprise the revenue cycle, how to document the associated risks, perform a formal risk assessment, and use the assessment to determine what components should be included in the annual audit plan.
