The Foundation's First Externally
Funded Grant
Sage Publishing provided the funds to support the Sage Publishing
Dissertation Grant awarded at the 2009 Conference to Chin Hwa Yi,
University of Michigan for her study, "African American Women and
Prenatal Care: Effect of Client-Provider Interaction."
A FUN and FUNNY Night at the
FUNdraiser!
This first annual Talent Show featured several terrific acts, with votes
for the winner of the traveling trophy made by $$!
The trophy, a musical roller
coaster named Tornado, symbolized experiences in research through the name,
the ups and downs of the path, the group in each car (no solo activity),
the need for a push or assist in climbing to the top, and the fact that you
can change the tune (when you need to resubmit).
The University of Minnesota had the
most dollar votes and will be displaying this trophy for the next year. The
University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Nebraska received
second and third places.
How much did we raise? Voting
raised $2,614 and 220 tickets were sold to the event.
It's not too early to plan acts for
next year!
Third Annual Silent Auction
A record 223 items were donated to the silent auction this year! The Local
Arrangements Committee, Drs. Ruth Lindquist, Linda Chlan, and Linda
Herrick, worked very hard to solicit items, challenging themselves to
increase the number of items over the last year's auction.
Geocaching Events
The Geocaching events, led by Dr. Madeleine Kerr and Lynn Choromanski,
raised $200, and those who joined learned about a new activity (treasure hunting
with GPS), had fun, learned about Minneapolis, and got some exercise.
Call for Volunteers!
We are setting up two committees to plan and assist with our events:
- FUNdraiser Committee
- Silent Auction Committee
If you would like to help with raising funds, please contact MNRS with your name and the
committee you would like to serve on.
If you missed any of these events,
make sure you do not miss these opportunities for therapeutic laughter, fun
exercise, and wonderful shopping at the 2010 Conference in Kansas City. A
big THANK YOU to all who made these events a great success!
