Promoting Cultural Heritage Institutions and Influencing Public Opinion Case Study: "Great Libraries of the World" TV Series

In 1996 SSP awarded its "Distinguished Service Award" to long-time member, Czeslaw (Chet) Jan Grycz. Chet should be in retirement by now, but instead, obtained a small $100K seed grant from the Wladyslaw Poniecki Charitable Foundation to produce four pilot episodes for a series of PBS-aimed television programs entitled "Great Libraries of the World" (GLOW) Four of the pilots have recently been turned over to PBS for broadcast, but have not yet been scheduled. They include:

  • The Missouri Botanical Garden Library and Herbarium, St. Louis
  • The Getty Research Institute Library, Los Angeles
  • The Bancroft Library Seismic Retrofit, Berkeley
  • The Internet Archive Digital Library, San Francisco.

View an episode and chat with Producer, Host and SSP member Chet Grycz, and video director Bill Allard, who will be present to answer questions about the series.
